Birth control patch – ORTHOEVRA shown to cause blood clots!
OrthoEvra is a contraceptive patch marketed by a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson – Ortho McNeil. The FDA has found that OrthoEvra exposes women to high levels of estrogen and as a result, increases risk of injury. (www.frankpasternak.com/orthoevra.htm)
HOW DOES THE PATCH WORK? The progestin in the patch prevents the ovary from releasing an egg. If ovulation does not occur, a woman cannot become pregnant. The uterine lining is also thinner than normal. This change in the uterine lining helps inhibit the implantation of a fertilized egg – providing additional protection in case ovulation occurs. (As I was copying this information, I had to notice the previous sentences: ‘The patch prevents ovulation…providing additional protection in case ovulation occurs.’ These aren’t my words – they came from – The McKinley Health Center – University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Does this sound just a little ‘convoluted’ to you? – G.E.) These hormones also cause an alteration in the cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to enter the uterus.
