CHANTIX

CHANTIX

(varenicline)

New stop smoking medication to help you quit.

The Food and Drug Administration approved varenicline (Chantix) in 2006 for adult smokers who want to stop smoking.

(Now, we all know that we can trust the FDA to look out for our best interest, can’t we? Better show this to all those BAD smokers!!!)

When you smoke, nicotine from the cigarette causes receptors in the brain to release a chemical called dopamine, which is what causes many of the positive feelings you get from smoking. When you quit smoking, going without dopamine causes miserable signs and symptoms of withdrawal – such as irritability, insomnia and difficulty concentrating within 4-6 hours after your last cigarette & can last a month after you quit smoking.

Chantix stimulates the release of dopamine in your brain to help reduce signs/symptoms of withdrawal. Chantix also blocks nicotine receptors in your brain. So if you lapse and have a cigarette, your cigarette doesn’t stimulate your brain’s receptors the way it did in the past. Cigarettes become much less pleasurable, and your desire to return to regular smoking may be reduced.
